Exclusive: Ana Gasteyer to Headline June 7 Indy Pride Event
[UPDATED, June 7, 2013]
Stage and screen actress and singer Ana Gasteyer will star in a cabaret-style event on the evening of Friday, June 7, at The Columbia Club on Indianapolis’s Monument Circle. The Saturday Night Live alumnae will headline Pride Night at The Cabaret. Ticket information is here via The Cabaret’s website, and more details appear here via Indy Pride.
“The amazingly talented Ana Gasteyer is a great way to introduce Pride Night at The Cabaret.” says Nick Murphy, Indy Pride president. “She will not only attract locals who enjoy a more sophisticated night on the town, but we also hope to entice out-of-town guests for Circle City IN Pride to extend their visit to the entire weekend.” Indy Pride’s main event will be the next day, Saturday, June 8, downtown.
In comments exclusive to IM, Murphy extrapolates: “Her musical comedy delivery is priceless. Honestly, that delivery is what I am most excited about. She could sing a restaurant menu and make me laugh.”
Indy Pride festival co-chair Chris Morehead adds this: “As a longtime fan of Ana, I am personally ecstatic to have her take part in this brand-new event, Pride Night at The Cabaret, and help to cement this evening in our already amazing schedule of events for the Circle City IN Pride celebration. I am very familiar with her incredible comedic talent, but am very much looking forward to hearing her sing as well! I had no idea that she was just as talented on a mic singing as she has proven to be in her comedy.”
Gasteyer starred on SNL for six years ahead of her current network-TV gig on ABC’s Suburgatory. She debuted on Broadway as Columbia in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, taking to Chicago to originate the role of Elphaba in that city’s run of Wicked in 2005. She is now working on adapting an album version of her one-woman cabaret act, Elegant Songs from a Handsome Woman.
As for Indy Pride 2013 itself, the organization and accompanying festival’s redesigned website was unveiled this week. More information about the Gasteyer event and other week-of Pride fest happenings can be found there and via the organization’s brand-new mobile app.
Here are a couple looks at Gasteyer’s singing performances on stage, first belting “Defying Gravity” as Elphaba in Wicked—she went on to reprise the role on Broadway itself a year later—and another live peformance, one likely similar to her impending turn at The Cabaret:
