Overheard at the State Fair: Sheepish
It may be “The Year of Dairy Cows” at this year’s Indiana State Fair, but some are getting downright sheepish at the big event. From a State Fair media blast that went out on Saturday, here’s one quote about the rivalry between sheep-raising sisters, ages 14 and 17, respectively:
“She [Samantha] is older, so she gets the better sheep. We’re usually very competitive in the barn.” —Alexandra Raute
A total of 25 livestock and garden projects in Saturday’s 4-H Sale of Champions generated revenue edging above $155,000. None of the fauna and flora sold for less than $1,500. (By comparison, I bought my first car, a used Oldsmobile Delta 88, in 1998 for $1,400.) This money aids 4-H members with college costs, future 4-H project purchases, and career development, per the Indiana State Fair’s Andy Klotz.
What witty or pithy things have you heard at the Fair?
