Tracking the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay: The Final Days
After 3,200 miles, 92 counties, and 32 days , the Torch and its crew can finally rest—the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay officially came to a halt this past Saturday, October 15, with a Hoosier Homecoming Bash. One last time, let’s recap and take a look at the flame’s final days.
Back again! Purdue University welcomed back the flame as it passed through Tippecanoe County. As Purdue engineering students helped design the Torch, it’s only right the flame paid a visit again.

Show Stopper. This Hamilton County torchbearer made the most of his trek with a weaving Chinese dragon on his heels. Albert Chen is the founder of Telamon Corporation in Carmel—one of Indiana’s largest private companies—and clearly has a herd of helpful friends.
Race ya? The flame made a pit stop in Madison County at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino last Friday. With the Torch under a tight schedule, we’re sure this racehorse had no troubles completing a speedy lap.
Home, Sweet Home. The flame began its last trek of the relay at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this past Saturday morning and completed two laps around the track—remaining lit, of course. We’d expect nothing less from Purdue engineering students and faculty. Before arriving home at the Statehouse, the Torch made several pit stops along the way, including The Children’s Museum, Monument Circle, the Indiana War Memorial, and Bicentennial Plaza, to name a few.
