Q&A: Karmin, Soon to Play the Indiana State Fair

Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan make up the musical duo Karmin, and released the catchy single “Acapella” in June. The group’s two previous hits, “Hello” and “Brokenhearted,” both climbed to No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance Club chart. As the band prepares to kick off the Indiana State Fair tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Marsh Free Stage, we caught up with them and got their impressions of the city:

IM: You were just here with the Jonas Brothers last month. What was that like?

Nick Noonan: It was only like the second or third night of the tour, so it was pretty early on. But clearly, it was awesome.

IM: Did you explore Indy at all while you were here?

NN: We did! We went downtown to eat some froyo and got our shopping on at Circle Centre.

IM: What was your favorite part of downtown?

Amy Heidemann: The atmosphere here. We were actually just talking about that last night. Indy feels like a big city, but it isn’t that big.

IM: Anything weird about playing a rural event like the Indiana State Fair?

NN: No, it feels like we’re back home. Amy came from a small town in Nebraska, and I came from a small town in Maine. Both towns have populations under 8,000.

IM: You’re opening for bands like STYX. Are you a fan?

AH: Oh yeah! It’s an honor.

IM: Have you been to a lot of state fairs?

AH: We have, but they all have a different vibe. The one thing they all share is great food stands. I’m going to eat a fried Snickers bar!
