IMA Releases Summer Nights Film Series Schedule

The Indianapolis Museum of Art is trying to make “fetch” happen.

The IMA can always be counted on to show a range of high-quality films from various genres in its (deep breath) National Bank of Indianapolis Summer Nights Film Series, and the thirty-ninth season of big-screen hits will not disappoint in that respect. Elegant fare such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s rubs shoulders with Friday the 13th‘s ilk in this lineup, which begins on June 6 with the former and concludes on Aug. 29 with The Godfather.

The highlights we await? Tiffany’s, to be sure, but also the Alfred Hitchcock classic Vertigo, Tina Fey’s Mean Girls, Robin Williams as Peter Pan in Hook (“Ru-fee-ohhh!”), and Clue‘s kitschy-cool ensemble (“Flames! Flames on the side of my face!”).

Here’s the full roster:

June 6: Breakfast at Tiffany’s
June 13: Friday the 13th
June 20: The Jerk
June 27: The French Connection
July 4: No showing (Independence Day)
July 11: Vertigo
July 18: Hook
July 25: Flashdance
Aug. 1: American Graffiti
Aug. 8: Clue
Aug. 15: The Odd Couple
Aug. 22: Mean Girls
Aug. 29: The Godfather

What’s more, attendees can pack their own picnics to tote to the grounds. (And boy, do they ever: Here’s a primer on the personalities you’ll see at the showings.) Lawn chairs, blankets, sleeping bags—name it, and you can probably cuddle up with it in the dark. Concessions and alcoholic beverages, featuring Sun King Brewing Company products and more, are typically on hand for sale.

The lineup and scheduling is always subject to change, especially due to inclement weather, so check the IMA website and Twitter and Facebook feeds for up-to-the-minute updates whenever possible. Seating for filmgoers with disabilities and closed-captioning may both be available.

Summer Nights Film Series. June 6–Aug. 29, 7 p.m. (showings at sunset). Indianapolis Museum of Art, 4000 Michigan Rd., 317-923-1331. Tickets $6 IMA members, $10 nonmembers. imamuseum.org
