John Green Makes TIME's Most Influential People List
The shock and awe that John Green felt during his appearance at the MTV Movie Awards will certainly return today. Time named Green one of its 100 most influential people in the world, listing the Indianapolis author along with President Barack Obama, Pope Francis, and Jeff Bezos—not bad company. Time also encouraged readers to vote and create their own list of 100. Green graces that list, too, sandwiched in the middle of country-music superstar Carrie Underwood and Indy’s Late Night hero, David Letterman.
Colleagues, friends, or folks in the same industry wrote “official” blurbs about the highlighted individuals. Green’s official listing was written by Shailene Woodley, who plays the leading role in his best-selling-book–turned-film, The Fault in Our Stars. Woodley goes as far as calling him a prophet, in a universal sense. She also makes an interesting point in regard to Green’s ability to connect with today’s youth: “Some say that through his books, John gives a voice to teenagers. I humbly disagree. I think John hears the voices of teenagers.”
It seems as though 2014 has been Green’s best year to date. And with TFIOS hitting theaters this summer on June 6, he’s sure to continue his brisk and merited rise.
