Letterman Returning To TV In 2018

Now we have yet another reason to Netflix and chill. The streaming service announced today that David Letterman will return to television in 2018 in a yet-to-be named, six-episode series. The hour-long series will feature “in-depth conversations with extraordinary people, and in-the-field segments expressing [Letterman’s] curiosity and humor,” according to a press release.

Two years ago, the Indianapolis native left a 33-year career in late-night television as an industry icon, reinventing the genre over 6,028 episodes of Late Night (NBC) and The Late Show (CBS). An audience of 13.76 million watched his final episode on May 20, 2015.

“I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix,” Letterman said. “Here’s what I have learned, if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely.”

5/14/2019 Update: Following the success of the 2018 series that featured guests like Barack Obama, Tina Fey, and George Clooney, Netflix has renewed “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction,” for a second season to debut May 31, 2019. No word yet on who Dave’s guests will be, but look for more Emmy-nominated content.
