Our Guide To Creepin’ It Real At Irvington Halloween Festival

It’s October, which means it’s basically Halloween. If you’re anything like us, you’ve hung up all your spooky decorations, you’ve browsed every aisle of the Halloween section at Target, and you’ve even started putting spooky snacks around your house. So now what? Step away from the candy corn, drop the artificial cobwebs, and head out to Irvington for a weeklong festival of spookiness October 22 to 29.

October 21, 8 p.m.–midnight. Kick off the festival with a night of mystery and intrigue at the Ice House (400 S. Ritter Ave.) for the Masquerade Charity Ball benefiting the Bona Thompson Library and Legacy Fund. With a special spooky menu and a cash bar, this Victorian London–themed bash is one you won’t want to miss.

October 24, 6 p.m.–8:30 p.m. Bring your little goblins and ghouls to the Slightly Haunted Puppet Show at Irving Theater (5505 E. Washington St., 317-356-3355).

October 25, 8 p.m.–10 p.m. If you only came for the boos, head over to Black Acre Horror Trivia night. With an extensive draft list, Black Acre Brewing Co. (5632 E. Washington St., 317-207-6266) has a brew for every witch.

October 27, 7 p.m.–10 p.m. Get drop-dead gorgeous and join in on a Historic Irvington Halloween Festival tradition: the annual Zombie Bike Ride. The route will start at the Irvington Branch Indianapolis Public Library (5625 E. Washington St.) and conclude at Irving Circle.

October 28, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Trick or treat yo’ self at the biggest event of the festival: the 71st Historic Irvington Halloween Festival Street Fair (5700 E. Washington St.). Parking is available at Howe High School Lot and at 6243 East Washington Street, with shuttle buses running to the festival. If ya got it, haunt it at the costume contest from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. The devilish dogs in your life can show off their finery in the Canine Costume Contest from 2:45 p.m–4 p.m. The festival will have over 120 vendors, live music, and a costume parade.

October 28, 6:30 p.m.–9:30 p.m. Spooky skaters will take the track for some haunted roller derby at Ellenberger Park (5301 E St Clair St).

October 28, 6p.m.–11 p.m. The festival concludes with an after-party at Playground Productions Studio (5529 N. Bonna Ave., Ste. 10) where live music, artistic boots, and performing arts are sure to put a spell on you.
