Huddle Up: Audibles Around the Web
>> Super City went on the air with Ed Wenck at 93 WIBC on Thursday. (Hear the audio below the photo at right.) The spot aired at 6:10 p.m. and focused on reader and public reactions to the freshly revealed official Super Bowl poster by Walter Knabe and the Host Committee’s (ahem) super-important parking and traffic announcement.
>> If the city itself won’t have it, Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma may muscle through a statewide smoking ban ahead of the Super Bowl. Officials have worried aloud as far back as two years before Super Bowl XLVI as to whether public smoking will hurt Indy’s hospitality rating in the eyes (literally) and throats of visitors.
>> Rolling Stone has entered the fray of magazines boasting hoity-toity Super Bowl parties, a first for the rock culture pub. Of course music acts will be on the bill, and hailing from a few genres, but RS is tight-lipped for now as to who those will be. Tickets are $1,000, a comparative steal in light of Maxim and Playboy parties at Super Bowl XLV in Dallas going for $2,500 and $1,250 per ticket, respectively. The event will be housed at Crane Bay, a renovated warehouse close to Lucas Oil Stadium.
>> Maxim itself has announced a star-studded lineup for its Salute the Troops Tailgate Party. Celeb chef Guy Fieri, NFL analyst and former star player Tony Siragusa, and more will be on hand. Tickets are $650 a piece.
>> The unfortunately named apl.de.ap, the most minor member of Black Eyed Peas, the largely decried performers from last year’s Super Bowl halftime show, has advice for this year’s headliner. Silly pea, don’t bother Madonna. She’s got this. And Her Madgesty’s alleged halftime setlist has been leaked.
>> ESPN 1070 “The Fan” has a nifty list of “Road to 46” events around town, including Lucas Oil Stadium tours and the Indiana State Museum’s exhibit of artifacts from colorful Colts owner Jim Irsay’s personal collection.
>> The Super Bowl Host Committee’s Super Cure efforts to battle breast cancer are truly amazing. Indy is actually home to the globe’s only known tissue bank. See survivor Traci Runge’s video story here.
>> Giving good face to Indy’s Super Bowl efforts is the “XLVI Faces” campaign, also put on by the Host Committee. Polished video clips feature everyone from a former NFL linebacker to a current high school student.
