Inside Track: May's a Snap with Handy New App
Imagine if you will: It’s Friday, and you’ve just finished lunch. You step outside; the sun is shining, and a gentle breeze tousles your hair. You don’t want to go back to the office, so you decide to play hooky and while away the rest of the afternoon at the track. It’s a May tradition as true as Mother’s Day.
In the old days (and by old days we mean last May), you’d have to forage for a newspaper to find out what was going on at IMS that afternoon, or try to navigate some cumbersome webpage on the tiny screen of your smartphone.
Not anymore. The just-released My Month of May app compiles all of the major 500 events in a neat, easy-to-use (and free!) electronic package. With the calendar feature, you can click on a date, and a list of that day’s events appear at the bottom of the screen. You can also scroll through or search a complete list of the month’s festivities to find descriptions, times, locations, admission costs, and so forth. And a “favorites” feature allows you to bookmark promising listings for easy reference. The app is offered by Boost Media Entertainment, 1070 The Fan, and WIBC 93.1FM.
So far, we like it. And we have a note for the suggestion box: How great would it be if, in time for the 500, the app included the entire starting grid, with pics and car numbers, to help us follow the race?
Okay, maybe next year.
