Indiana Sports Corp president Allison Melangton has been named as one of SportsBusiness Journal’s ‘Game Changers,’ a feature that celebrates women in sports business who have demonstrated leadership, development and success.
“To be listed among such a distinguished group of women is a tremendous honor,” said Melangton. “I have been fortunate to have great mentors and to work alongside great partners. A large part of this recognition should be dedicated to my talented colleagues and dedicated committee members and volunteers who have been an integral part of our community’s success. I am truly humbled by this recognition.”
Melangton served as president and CEO of the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee beginning in 2008. Super Bowl XLVI received rave reviews earlier this year as one of the best organized, produced and most engaging events in National Football League history. In addition to the game featuring the New York Giants and New England Patriots, Indianapolis created unmatched initiatives and programming around the event. Over the course of 10 days, more than 1.1 million fans celebrated in Super Bowl Village on Georgia Street, enjoying live musical acts, a zip line and NFL-themed excitement. A record 265,000 fans enjoyed NFL Experience at the Indiana Convention Center. The 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee also launched the Legacy Project, which included the building of the $11 million Chase Near Eastside Community Center and other initiatives that resulted in $154 million in investment.
Melangton returned to Indiana Sports Corp as president in September, where she previously served as Senior Vice President of Events until 2008.
Women have been front and center for some of sports’ premier story lines in 2012. This is the second year that SportsBusiness Journal and SportsBusiness Daily have produced ‘Game Changers.’ The series can be seen in the SportsBusiness Journal’s latest edition published on October 8.
