The Cabaret Seeks a Bigger Stage
The Cabaret announced today that it’s leaving its gorgeous jewel box of a location at the Columbia Club in spring 2017. Shannon Forsell, its artistic director and CEO, said the group has outgrown its current space and is exploring new venue options for the 2017 season.
That’s sad news for those of us who love the intimacy of its current locale, where there are really no bad seats in the house. But on the upside, it could make tickets easier to get—Cabaret shows tend to sell out fast.
Over the last four years, The Cabaret increased its seating capacity by 20 percent to meet demand. But even so, in both 2015 and 2016, it was at 96 percent audience capacity, with most shows selling out well in advance, according to a press release.
