“When you’re doing a longer run, it gets boring running the same loop over and over,” says Mini-Marathoner Vince Rightley. “There is no traffic. You can get away from everything except the trees. I can get 10 miles in without worrying about cars.”

Through a print publication and a website with stories celebrating Indy’s quirky residents, neighborhoods, and attractions, No Mean City aims to inspire more people to live in Marion County.

“A lot of people have expressed interest,” says co-founder Maria Srour. “A lot of people want this to be a regular thing.”

At a briefing held at a local church, Ed and Paula Kassig requested “the time and privacy to mourn, cry, and yes, forgive, and begin to heal.”

Loved ones hope a social-media campaign organized around a hashtag—#JusticeForAbdulRahmanKassig—will convince his captors to spare the Indianapolis native’s life.
