A Guide to Gluten-free Dining
Wheat averse? No need to go without a great meal. Here, a roundup of restaurants around the city that offer either a dedicated gluten-free menu or menu items that can be ordered without the gluten.
Flying Cupcake. Indy’s original cupcake bakery offers three different gluten-free cupcakes in chocolate, vanilla, and maple-pecan.
Divvy (71 W. City Center Dr., Carmel, 317-706-0000). The shared-plates restaurant and bar has more than 40 gluten-free menu options, including Thai chili bacon bites with chili mango sauce.
Scotty’s Brewhouse (1 Virginia Ave., 317-571-0808; 3905 E. 96th St., 317-574-0101). Scotty’s has a designated gluten-free menu. Among the entrees, pineapple salsa tilapia.
Barcelona Tapas (201 N. Delaware., 317-638-8272). A gluten-free menu is available upon request at this Spanish tapas restaurant.
BJ’s Brewhouse (1251 US 31 N., Greenwood, 317-881-3500). Try the gluten-free alcoholic ciders, like Berry Burst Cider and Wyders Pear Cider. There is even a gluten-free Redbridge beer.
PF Chang’s China Bistro (49 W. Maryland St., 317-974-5747; 8601 Keystone Crossing, 317-815-8773). Dishes such as Vietnamese crab salad and Caramel Mango Chicken are cooked in gluten-free sauces.
96th Street Steakburgers (4715 E. 96th St., 317-844-6351). This steakburger joint now offers a gluten-free Udi’s bun.
Puccini’s Smiling Teeth. Have your pizza or pasta prepared gluten-free for an extra dollar.
Mellow Mushroom (2340 E. 116th St., Carmel, 317-846-2400). Mellow Mushroom recently created a gluten-free dough that includes bean, rice, and tapioca flour, starch, yeast, and egg.
Mitchell’s Fish Market (14311 Clay Terrace Blvd., Carmel, 317-848-3474). This fish market offers appetizers such as pan-roasted wild blue mussels, oysters, and fish on its gluten-free menu.
The Old Spaghetti Factory (210 S. Meridian St., 317-635-6325). This downtown institution offers a gluten-free menu with wheat-less pasta for an additional 75 cents.
