Made from Scratch II: the Birth of Bluebeard

For three month this winter and spring, we followed father-and-son team Tom and Ed Battista as they faced the joys and tribulations of opening their new restaurant, Bluebeard, in Fletcher Place (at 653 Virginia Ave). It is a venture, however rewarding, not for the faint of heart. In IM‘s May 2012 “Made from Scratch” feature, we gave readers a sneak peak on how the Battistas’ vision for a simple Italian-style bakery called Amelia’s spiraled into a mini restaurant complex poised to open in June—and overcame loan rejections, overworked architects, and a hulking oven that barely squeezed through the door along the way.
