Six Pack: Indy's Best Stores for Beer Carryout

Whether you’re looking to kick back with a brew and watch basketball or impress your friends with your newly acquired knowledge of Hoosier hops, here’s your guide to the best places to carry out a six pack or an entire case.

Crown Liquors

It takes two stories to hold all the booze in downtown’s largest liquor store. Crown’s huge selection of beer includes over a dozen Indiana craft beers, available alone or in pre-made six-pack samplers. Come to tastings held on Fridays for 10 percent off select beers. 150 N. Delaware St., 317-638-3720, crownliquors.net

Kahn’s Fine Wines & Spirits

This store’s original location near SoBro is home to a broad selection of 50 different Indiana microbrews. Attend one of Kahn’s quarterly beer tastings and you can purchase your favorite new suds at a special discounted price. Just be ready for company—crowds can number more than 200. 5341 N. Keystone Ave., 317-251-9463, kahnsfinewines.com

Parti Pak Liquors

This southside liquor store says it offers “anything and everything,” including hard-to-find brews. Some beers, like Founder’s Kentucky Breakfast Stout, are in such high demand that you’ll have to put your name on a waiting list. Parti Pak claims to carry all Indiana brewed beers, including the well known Three Floyds. If you can’t decide on just one beer, you can try six new brews by taking advantage of the store’s create-your-own six pack. 2633 E Stop 11 Rd., 317-889-7452

Payless Liquors

Craft beer enthusiasts, rejoice: This enormous location has two aisles devoted to microbrews. Payless carries several hard-to-find varieties of the Bloomington-based Upland brewery. Other popular regional picks include beers from Founders and Bell’s. 9520 Uptown Dr., Fishers, 317-570-9851, payless-liquors.com

United Package Liquors

Also on the southside, this location boasts 12 different Indiana microbrews and a knowledgeable staff. You can take home a Hoosier-brewed six pack of the award-winning Barley Island’s famous Dirty Helen beer. Oaken Barrel’s Gnaw Bone Pale Ale, brewed in Greenwood, is another popular Indiana beer offered by United Package. The store also hosts various events and tastings; check out the monthly schedule on their website. 8924 S. Meridian St., 317-888-8280, unitedpackageliquors.com

Vine & Table

Don’t be intimidated by the wine and sushi. This spot houses more than 500 beers from 26 countries at its 2,400-square-foot Carmel location. Their make-your-own-six-pack wall alone boasts 150 options. Vine & Table features some coveted but elusive Belgian beers, including brews from the Oud Beersel brewery and St. Bernardus Abt 12. 313 E. Carmel Dr., Carmel, 317-817-9473, vineandtable.com
