SPOTTED: Jim Sorgi at Harry & Izzy's

You never know who you’ll end up rubbing elbows and swapping plates with downtown.

A friend who works in radio invited me to have a drink with his cohorts at Harry & Izzy’s (153 S. Illinois St., 317-635-9594) last Monday night. He himself didn’t know it would turn into dinner, and lo and behold, former Colts backup quarterback Jim Sorgi was the centerpiece among the extended party of chums. The group dined on St. Elmo’s shrimp cocktail, gourmet prime-rib pizza, and (no shocker here) some fiendishly tasty steaks. Sorgi’s wife, a very pretty and petite blonde, couldn’t finish her own 10-ounce slab, which she then offered to me. On the heels of downing half of my friend’s pizza, I all but inhaled that perfect piece of medium-cooked meat.

Sorgi, now a New York Giant, was in high spirits, asking the media mavens at the table if he should take to Twitter. (Here’s hoping he avoids the pitfalls of some tweet-tastic athletes.) Then he stealthily paid for all the food and drink we had taken in, including what this total stranger imbibed. Sorgi and his friends then trotted across Maryland Street to Conseco Fieldhouse for (what else?) the Monday night WWE bout. A pro athlete has his needs, you see, be they high- or lowbrow, and on the same night.
