Time After Time
The Times. It is a Changin.
OK, see if you can follow this; things move fast in Gotham:
First came the brilliant and delicious special issue of the Sunday New York Times Magazine, in which chief critic Sam Sifton (along with advice on where to take your parents for their 50th anniversary) announced that he would finish his stint in that position by announcing his choice for Best Restaurant in NYC.
Then a week later, he did. (Hint: it’s Per Se, “an East Coast satellite of Thomas Keller’s legendary French Laundry in Yountville, Calif.”)
And then came the funny announcement that, while everyone waited “for the puffs of white smoke that will issue from the chimney atop 620 Eighth Avenue, Eric Asimov would serve as interim restaurant critic.
We’re glad Asimov can take this on; his regular wine columns (like the most recent, on Montalcino ) make for lively and useful reading.
There. Now you’re all caught up.
