The Feed: Farmers Markets, Indiana Originals, And More

The latest in Indianapolis dining news.

The Broad Ripple Farmers Market has moved to a new location at 6147 Rural Avenue, behind the Target in Glendale. They’ll be implementing extensive precautions to keep both vendors and customers safe, including mandatory masks and gloves for all vendors, an immunocompromised shopping time from 8 to 8:30 a.m., hand-washing stations, dedicated separate exits and entrances, and social-distancing spacing. They’re encouraging customers to pre-order and pre-pay for as much as they can and request that shoppers wear masks. Find all the new rules and information on their website.

Similar measures are being taken at the rest of the farmers markets, from Garfield Park to Carmel. Binford Farmer’s Market is temporarily shifting to a drive-through setup. Garfield Market is implementing masks and social distancing rules, along with encouraging pre-ordering. Carmel has already implemented masks and gloves for all vendors, and they’re planning to keep it going into May.

Speedway’s favorite place for ribs and tips, Barbecue & Bourbon (1414 N. Main St., Speedway, 317-241-6940), has reopened for carry-out and curbside service. They’ve come back out swinging with a limited but delicious menu, and they’ll be curtailing their daily hours to 11 a.m.–7:30 p.m., just enough time to get your lunch or a family dinner to share.

There’s no better time to redirect your spending back into Hoosier-owned businesses, so the fine folks at Indiana Originals have developed a huge database of Indiana-owned businesses across every industry category, including food and drinks. Search for your faves on their website

Carmel restaurant Divvy is partnering with Carmel City Center and Pedcor Companies to launch a Feeding Neighbors initiative to help patch the holes in Carmel’s food access. With so many parents out of work, some food-insecure kids are in perilous food-access territory, and donations as small as $15 will provide an adult with breakfast and lunch, including fresh vegetable and fruit side items; or two days of breakfast, lunch, and snacks for children. Divvy will be preparing the meals and distributing them to local orgs. To donate, email info@feedingneighbors.org.

If you’ve been bummed about missing Mother’s Day brunch at Rosie’s Place, you can still have it, you know. Rosie’s is offering a limited takeout menu as well as shipping bouquets of Mom’s favorite butter cookies and coffee anywhere in the US.  Orders for pick-up must be placed by Thursday, May 7 by calling them in Noblesville (317-770-3322) or Zionsville (317-344-6500).

City Market in conjunction with BK Designs and HomeTown Riot has launched a T-shirt fundraiser to support the workforce of City Market merchants who have been laid off or furloughed during this COVID-19-forced closure. With two vintage-look designs available in red and light blue, you can stylishly show your support for the workers of one of Indy’s oldest institutions for just $15, or choose the donation-only option on the same page. All of the proceeds from this effort will go directly to the workforce impacted.
