IPL Marks Martin Luther King Jr. Day with Light Display

Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) is marking Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day by commemorating his “I Have a Dream” speech on its headquarters’ light display. As of Sunday evening, the IPL building on Monument Circle featured this scrolling message:

In an iconic speech, Robert F. Kennedy announced to an Indianapolis crowd on the evening of April 4, 1968, that Dr. King had been assassinated in Memphis. RFK was in the Circle City on the campaign trail at that time as he sought the U.S. presidency that year.
The IPL building is well known for its timely displays—rotating, scrolling, or static—over the years. “Believe in Blue”–themed Colts colors are shown throughout the NFL season, of course. On a June 2013 evening when actor-singer Ana Gasteyer performed a concert at the Columbia Club’s Cabaret venue, the IPL building was illuminated with colors resembling a rainbow flag the night before Indy Pride’s main festival day. (Indy Pride had sponsored Gasteyer’s appearance.)
