The annual Black History Month event will broadcast its performances online via Facebook each week.

The local nonprofit arts sector is projected to endure 30,000 cancellations and $51 million in lost revenue by this month—with another $20 million in restart costs on the horizon.

The Arts Council commissioned 33 artists to turn the usual signs into works of art. The artists were instructed not to focus on incorporating race imagery or colors, but on delivering the welcome message in their own style.

“I can’t wait for the Indianapolis Museum of Art ‘Project IMA Fashion Show’ on October 9. It’s truly one of the best-produced fashion events in our city—a must-see!”

Says Jeffers, “I’m trying to move us past sprinkling people of color into a photo to really being more inclusive and having events that are relevant to more than one type of people.”
