The exhibit includes a picture of women playing baseball in the 1890s, five decades before the movie characters portrayed by Geena Davis and Madonna had a “League Of Their Own” during World War II.

Five museums and archival sites will show us their take on the 1960s beginning this month in a joint exhibition called “A Change Is Gonna Come.”

Despite the unseasonably pleasant weather, Dec. 1 saw the Eugene and Marilyn Glick History Center decked out in Christmas finery for the 10th annual Holiday Author Fair. More than 80 authors from around the state came to meet stalwart fans and first-timers to the literary event.

The image was remarkable for its time, when most Civil War memorials focused on soldiers and neglected the issue of slavery altogether.
