Top 5 Fourth of July Fireworks Viewing Spots in Downtown Indy

Fourth of July is just around the corner. The midsummer holiday brings a much-needed excuse to take a day (or several) off work and enjoy barbeque, beer, sunshine—and, of course, fireworks. Here are the best locations to catch the spectacular downtown show.

Victory Field

The city voted its favorite firework-watching spot to be Victory Field. Enjoy a baseball game, followed by the downtown fireworks right from your seat. This year, the Indians play the Louisville Bats with game time set at 6:05 p.m. This location is perfect for the whole family. Get your tickets here.

Highland Park

This park east of downtown offers a beautiful skyline view and is a great spot for viewing the fireworks. The park offers plenty of open space for setting up blankets and lawn chairs. Watch without having to get into the downtown area’s hustle and bustle.

Downtown Restaurant

Plenty of downtown restaurants have outside seating, and patios are packed on the night of July Fourth. Get there early to ensure a seat, and you can enjoy food and beverages throughout the evening. Rathskeller Biergarten, Bru Burger Bar, and Tavern on South are all excellent venues for viewing the show.

White River State Park

Another popular location is just west of downtown at White River State Park. Indy IGERS photographer Anna Shirley recommends sitting near the trail by the back entrance to the zoo. “My family and I have done that before—although if [you’re] parking at the zoo, getting out is a nightmare.” Consider parking farther away and walking a bit to beat the post-show traffic.

Tops of parking garages

To see the fireworks a little higher off the ground, go to the peak of a downtown parking garage. It likely will not be very crowded, and the view is stunning. Try the eighth floor of the Union Station Garage (301 S. Meridian St.) or an IUPUI garage, like Riverwalk Parking Garage (245 University Blvd.) for a unique perspective.
