Hulls to Join IU Soccer Cheering Section in NCAA Final
The Indiana University men’s soccer team can expect to see a familiar face in the stands when they take the field today (2 p.m., ESPNU) in the NCAA College Cup Final against Georgetown: men’s basketball star Jordan Hulls.
Last night Caleb Konstanski, the soccer Hoosiers’ senior defenseman, tweeted that Hulls, a fellow graduate of Bloomington High School South’s 2009 class, was “hopping in a car right now and coming down to Hoover,” Alabama, site of the championship showdown. IU soccer is seeking its eighth national title.
That Hulls would travel to Alabama after the basketball team’s dominating win over Central Connecticut on Saturday might not come as a surprise to anyone who has followed his Twitter feed throughout IU soccer’s tournament run. In its thrilling one-goal victory over Creighton in the semifinal on Friday, the Hoosier guard tweeted, “Wow that was a goal…@IUMensSoccer I’m going crazy.” He followed that up with some words of encouragement: “Letttttsssss gooooooooo!!!!! 8th star here we come!!!!!! @cjkonstan lets go get this one homie!! I’m going nuts here at cook with the dudes.”
And while Hulls might be the most enthusiastic soccer supporter on the basketball squad, many of his teammates have joined the cheering section:
Cody Zeller: “Congrats to our soccer team on the big win! One more to go! Bring home the cup!”
Victor Oladipo: “Congratulations to IU soccer they in the national championship game #bringithomeboys.”
Yogi Ferrell: “Congrats to the men’s soccer team on makin it to the national championship!! #q48”
Austin Etherington: “GOALLLLLLLL!!!!”
Here’s hoping that the basketball Hoosiers give the soccer team something to cheer about come April.
