Super Show: En Vogue's Funky Divas Still Have It
Nineties R&B fans swooned at the sights and sounds of En Vogue’s performance in Super Bowl Village on Friday afternoon. The ladies donned smart black bedazzled outfits and winning smiles while performing their biggest hits to an adoring crowd.
Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron and Maxine Jones each introduced herself early in the concert with charm and aplomb. Audience members responded with loud cheers, yelled-out song requests and lots of “I love you”s. It was easy to see that these concertgoers were true mega fans.
En Vogue gifted their affectionate audience with a deep set list. One highlight was an upbeat, soulful old-school medley. “Heard It Thru the Grapevine,” “Respect,” and “Lady Marmalade” were crooned with harmonies tight and belting intact. And if you thought the divas would forego their famous highly-choreographed dance sequences now that they’re, well, in their forties, you’d be wrong. Their snappy-as-ever moves in “Proud Mary” elicited whistles all the way down Georgia Street and motivated partiers to shake their own groove things. “Whatta Man” and “Free Your Mind” rounded out the best of the set.
