The Replay: Bobby Knight, Oliver Luck, and Ron Hunter
Every Friday, we post up The Replay, our weekly look at sports. It’s mostly fouls and airballs.
» Call it a Knight: ESPN won’t have Bob Knight to kick around anymore. Multiple outlets report that The Worldwide Leader won’t renew The General’s contract. The former IU coach had been a college basketball analyst with the network since 2008. Hey, Knight: We hear the Hoosiers are looking.
» Rhymes With Luck: A Twitter user alleged that the NCAA’s Oliver Luck made derogatory statements about Syracuse University and its men’s basketball coach, Jim Boeheim, at a bar before a basketball game. Luck denied the accusation. Hoosiers fans cannot.
» Can’t Miss: The Indy Star‘s Zac Keefer wrote an excellent oral history on Butler’s 2010 Final Four appearance and the Gordon Hayward shot that came within three inches of becoming one of the greatest sports stories of all time. The story prompted Deadspin to ask its readers to play God: “If You Could Change The Outcome of One Play, Which Would It Be?”
» Last Leg: The world still hasn’t had enough of Georgia State’s Ron Hunter. Last month, the former IUPUI men’s basketball coach rolled off this stool and into our hearts. Now, this video.
» Now Read This: A few years ago, ESPN The Magazine’s Seth Wickersham gave us an inside look at the wheeling and dealing that goes on in the hotel lobby at the Final Four. Worth a revisit.
