Getting our fix of Gen Con costumes at the free Yavin Four concert (that’s a Star Wars–themed punk band) on Georgia Street, tonight at 7 p.m. … First Friday at the Murphy Arts Building in Fountain Square, then mai tais at Revolucion‘s tiki bar. … Aqua-zumba at Carmel’s Monon Center Saturday morning. … Taking in the Leaping Llama Limbo Show obstacle course at the Indiana State Fair Saturday at 7 p.m. … Going to Mallow Run Winery’s Eats & Beats Night Saturday to listen to The Woomblies Rock Symphony Orchestra, a local band. … Prepping for the upcoming Monumental Marathon with a run on the canal and by the zoo. … Watching the Olympics with a hand-tossed pie from Aunty Polly’s Pizza, a great little mom-and-pop joint on the east side since 1970. … Making ground-cherry jam while the fruit is in season.

 

Fernandez began writing for Indianapolis Monthly in 1995 while studying journalism at Indiana University. One of her freelance assignments required her to join a women's full-tackle football team for a season. She joined the staff in 2005 to edit IM's ancillary publications, including Indianapolis Monthly Home.
