The Feed: The Cake Bake Shop, SausageFest, And More

» Are you up for the challenge of recreating some of the beautiful cakes from Broad Ripple’s sparkly Cake Bake Shop (6515 Carrollton Ave., 317-257-2253)? You’re in luck. Owner Gwendolyn Rogers announced on Instagram that she’s writing her first cookbook. Look for it in bookstores in time for the 2018 holiday season.

I am so excited to share with everyone that I am finally starting to work on my first Cake Bake Shop Cookbook! Pam Brandon is my editor and Bob Morris of Story Farms is my publisher. I met with the whole team in Orlando this morning to go over what the cookbook will look like. From concept to recipes to layout style to the size of the book. Pam has worked on numerous Disney cookbooks including ‘Delicious Disney’, ‘Chef Mickey’, ‘Cooking With Mickey & The Chefs Of Walt Disney World’ and many more. I am thrilled to have such an incredible team to work with. The cookbook will be available for the holiday season 2018. @story.farm @brandon.pam #cookbook

» The 13th Annual St. Thomas Aquinas SausageFest is this weekend, August 18 and 19 (4625 N. Kenwood Ave., 317-253-1461). The food and drink headliners are L.E. Kincaid & Sons meat market and Sun King Brewing, with additional vendors on site. There will also be two different music stages (one on a chaperoned teen back lot), plus lots of activities to keep the kids entertained.

These should be hot sellers at this week’s Sausagefest. Little wieners gotta wear something, right?

» The Broad Ripple Farmers Market is hosting its popular Dinner in the Garden event at Eskenazi Health (720 Eskenazi Ave.) on September 10, celebrating the life of Ross Faris, a beloved champion of the local food movement who died in 2011. The six-course meal with wine pairings will be prepared by an all-star team of local chefs and mixologists, including Tyler Herald (Public Greens), Braedon Kellner (Tinker Street), Craig Baker (The Local Eatery & Pub), Cindy and Roger Hawkins (Circle City Sweets), Brad Gates (Hedge Row), and Jason Foust (Festiva). During dinner, the market will announce the winner of this year’s Ross Faris Award, an honor given to a grower or producer for their contribution to the local food scene. Tickets are $95.
» Chef Craig Baker, owner of The Local Eatery & Pub (14655 N. Gray Rd., 317-218-3786), is collaborating with pastry chef Ben Hardy of SoBro’s Gallery Pastry Shop (1101 E. 54th St., 317-820-5526) on some new desserts for Baker ’s suburban eatery. Baker posted a video on Instagram of Hardy making tiramisu, one of the new offerings on The Local’s menu.
