NEW IN TOWN: BoomBozz Taphouse
Indianapolis has no shortage of pizza joints, from newly opened downtown Coal Pizza Company (36 E. Washington St., 317-685-2625) to Neal Brown’s authentic Neapolitan-style Pizzology (13190 Hazel Dell Pkwy., Carmel 317-844-2554).
But with all the possible variations, surely there’s room for one more. Last week, Kentucky-based BoomBozz Restaurants opened BoomBozz Taphouse (2430 E. 146th St., Carmel, 317-843-2666) in the former BD’s Mongolian Barbeque space. The brick-and-stone accented restaurant is fitted with around 25 taps, serving up a well-edited selection of imported craft brews, including custom brews made by Flat12 Bierwerks.
On a rain-slicked Wednesday night, BoomBozz had a full house for the VIP opening. Since we were between Carmel and Westfield, we thought it fitting to start off with a couple of The Hamilton Housewife cocktails—a clever concoction of metabolism-boosting green tea with citrus vodka and torn basil. Of the pizzas circulating, the Pollotate’ topped the list. We polished off plates of this garlicky oil-glazed thin crust topped with slices of marinated chicken and roasted potatoes, red onions, and asiago and mozzarella cheeses. Food Network named it best pizza in Kentucky, and we think it’ll do just fine here.
Servers carrying BoomBozz’s signature One Hot Cookie, a chocolate-chip confection cooked in a cast-iron skillet with a generous scoop of dense vanilla bean ice cream and chocolate sauce, were accosted by the crowds. Way to end on a sweet note.
