NEW IN TOWN: The Tin Roof
Considering the electric lime and Pepto-Bismol pink walls, mounted taxidermy, indoor bocce ball court, and Mister Rogers and Merle Haggard portraits, we have a feeling the owners of at the soon-to-open The Tin Roof (36 S. Pennsylvania St., 317-224-0785) won’t be taking much of anything too seriously.
Opening in early May, this live-music bar chain from Nashville, Tenn., will offer live bands on most evenings–and hopes to capture happy hour crowds headed to Bankers Life Fieldhouse. For fare, Indianapolis location managers, Tony Urbanek and Tim Gibbons, claim the spot will have better-than-bar food offerings. The three-page menu is rather expected, with fried hot dogs, wings, and cheese fries. But it holds a couple of fun surprises, including The Tin Roof, a sandwich made with grilled chicken, peanut butter, and honey. There are also a dozen or ‘Pizzadillas’ made with housemade tomato sauce. They go a little far with the casual bit. The menu exclaims, “everything comes in plastic” (we’re not sure why they’re so proud of this less-than-green approach). In warmer months, regulars can take over seats on the wraparound patio.
