Stuck in the Middle

An ice-cream sandwich on a bar menu? Why not, when there’s a good hit of bourbon in the housemade vanilla ice cream sandwiched between chewy chocolate-chip cookies? The bar menu is only available weekdays from 4 to 6—stop in for an after-work treat.

Blu Moon Cafe (200 S. Range Line Rd., Carmel, 844-8310)
The ice-cream sandwiches at this breakfast-and-lunch cafe in the Indiana Design Center feature summer bounty like market strawberries perfumed with lemon verbena and crisp chocolate cookies to hold it all in.

Tavern on South (423 W. South St., 602-3115)
There is something whimsical about mixed-berry ice cream wedged between sugar cookies, but the biggest surprise here is a frosty strawberry soda float that comes with the sammie, a bracing refresher on a hot summer day.
