Revisit: Tea’s Me Cafe
For more than a decade, Tea’s Me Cafe has catered to the palates of serious tea drinkers—people who know their dragon-pearl oolongs from their sencha greens. The shop got an extra hit of publicity in the spring, when owners Stacey and Wayne Ashford sold the business to former WNBA superstar (and loyal Tea’s Me customer) Tamika Catchings. While Catchings still brews teas from the original owners’ namesake Ashford Tea Company (sourcing blue-chip varieties from purveyors all over the world), she’s made her own mark by adding breakfast hours (the shop is now open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday) and a First Friday spoken-word series. Manager Joi DeFrantz, whose background is in chemistry, helps newcomers navigate a list of close to 50 teas, along with a food menu for carnivores and vegetarians alike. Plus, French-press coffee is now on the menu for diehards who prefer their buzz by the bean, not the bag. 140 E. 22nd St., 317-920-1016
