TREND WATCH: Shepherd's Pies
We didn’t need a UK survey to tell us that Shepherd’s pie, that yummy deep-dish casserole of beef and root veggies crusted with mashed potatoes, ranks high among comfort dishes to get us through the winter. Some of our favorites around town:
Claddagh Irish Pub‘s sweet, sloppy joe-like meat pie–light on the veggies and crusted with butter-soaked potatoes. Served with brown bread for soaking up the juices.
O’Reilly’s Irish Pub‘s dark, soupy, slow-cooked stew of ground beef, carrots, celery, and onion, browned over with mashed potatoes and melted cheese.
The braised-beef–based concoction at Oaken Barrel Brewing Company, the most unique interpretation of the traditional dish. This one features hunks of tender meat and other pot roast components, served in a stone crock and crowned with a generous scoop of cheesy mashed potatoes. Buttermilk biscuits come with.
Who else serves a good version of this pub classic?
