No. 18 – Syd's Fine Food & Spirits
Best Defense of the ‘Burbs
A lot of businesses have come and gone from Noblesville’s courthouse square over the years—hotels, dry-goods stores, harness-makers. One thing is constant, though: Since going up in 1889, the building at Logan and 8th streets has housed a bar (except during Prohibition). Today, the iconic neon sign of Syd’s, the building’s latest and most enduring tenant, remains a beacon for the downtown legal set, returning Noblesville expats, and, on Saturday nights, a raucous karaoke crowd. A cleaner version of the Red Key, Syd’s retains the chrome diner pieces and shuffleboard table of its postwar heyday, with a burgers-and-steak menu and an import list that doesn’t get much more exotic than Heineken. Nothing fancy here. And that’s just fine with us.
