My Look: Dan Ripley's Wooden Glasses

Charismatic antiques dealer Dan Ripley is responsible for two of Indy’s coolest new events—the Indie Arts & Vintage Marketplace and WARMfest, a music weekend—so perhaps it’s no surprise that the talented Mr. Ripley sees the world through some pretty special eyewear.

Tell us about these stylish frames.

Peter Boerger of Wooden Specs made these for me. I met him at Penrod, and he has a studio in the Stutz.

What drew you to them?

I see Peter’s glasses as individual works of art. I also liked that he was willing to adjust them as needed.

What kind of wood are they made of?

Sycamore.

They’re so unique. Do people stare?

They recognize they are not your typical mass-produced frames. The comment I hear most is that they are “legit.” These glasses are comfortable, lightweight, and durable, and I hope to have them forever.

How much does this pair cost?

Well, I suggested to my wife that they would make a great birthday gift. Online, prices run close to $1,000 per pair.

Wow. ever think about switching to contacts?

No.

What else do you wear?

Hats. I like fedoras and styles popular in the early 20th century.
