Pattern Magazine's Perfect Formula

Nikki Sutton, 34, interior designer and stylist
Vogue-esque Ambitions
In 2007, Osherov and Sutton began producing elaborate fashion spreads for fun and posting them on Facebook. This year, they rebranded the Indianapolis Fashion Collective, a networking group, as Pattern. Working with design director Kathy Davis (formerly of Indianapolis Dine), they premiered a local fashion glossy called Pattern Paper as a digital magazine in February.
A Muse
The first issue featured 16-year-old Indy-based model Grace Hartzel, who walked in Vera Wang’s Fall 2012 bridal show in New York.
697 Facebook “Likes”
Monthly Pattern meet-ups add to the number; 100 people paid $30 for a hard copy of the premier issue.
Time to Shop
Osherov: I’m not really a shopper. I don’t have time. Sutton: I hate to shop.
Osherov: Whatever, you shop all the time. Well, now that Nordstrom is gone from downtown, you don’t. If I shop anywhere, it’s probably Circle Centre. Sutton: I run my own business, so I shop at 3 a.m. online. But I’m proud to say that I just bought a pair of sunglasses at Indy Swank, jeans from 8Fifteen, and 20 belts at Value World. I love Value World.
44 Backers on Kickstarter
This summer, supporters quickly put Pattern over its $3,000 goal toward printing the second issue.
