Photos: Stylish Looks at New Rev Event

Short and swingy A-line dresses, some 1920s inspiration, and jumpsuits as the new cocktail dresses: That’s the story of sartorial choices at the first-ever Rev event held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday. And one more thing: bow ties galore. These styles could be found in the striking frocks sported by IndyCar drivers’ lovely ladies including Emma Davies Dixon, Bronte Tagliani, and more.

It appears that we Indianapolitans have moved on from our black-and-white-only days of Indianapolis 500 parties of yore (of the Rick Mears era, to be exact). That is just the first step needed to establish a signature 500 fashion statement—akin to Kentucky Derby hats—and, yes, you can trust that there is indeed a movement building for this.

Some eventgoers opted for body paint. Our award for best accessory, though, goes to the sophisticated dame who carried a custom license-plate purse reading “Off We Go.” The year on the plate, 1919, represents the vintage of her working roadster, made by her grandfather in Indy 95 years ago. (She even drove the car around the track Thursday.) Now that is a fashion statement.
