Shoptalk: Tory Story

The glamorous Tory Burch shop looks like a custom closet plucked from a posh Upper East Side penthouse. In fact, one could easily envision Burch herself—a pedigreed, petite blonde—lounging on one of the velvety blue sofas while contemplating her outfit for the day. Burch’s boho-preppy aesthetic shines through in a colorful paisley jumpsuit ($395) and a cotton tunic with graphic trim along the wrists and neckline ($350). The 9-to-5 set will appreciate the selection of workhorse pieces, like the A-line “Stretch Suiting Dress” ($375). Glass shelves trimmed in shiny brass put leather handbags on a pedestal; the structured “Fleming” ($475) evokes Chanel’s “2.55” bag with quilting and a chain strap. But without question, what helped rocket Burch into the billionaire tax bracket were her simple “Reva” ballet flats ($225 and up), featuring the line’s gleaming-gold double-T logo. Find them amid sassier styles, like the suede “Britannia” with a 4-inch stiletto ($375) and the block-heeled “Raleigh” pump ($295).
