Best Indy Spas: Wrap Star
Seaweed Spa Clay Body Bliss, $110, at Silver Door Boutique Spa
The Premise: Silver Door Boutique Spa in Carmel City Center offers a full slate of massages, facials, and body treatments, but winter’s wrath compelled me to sign on for the Seaweed Spa Clay Body Bliss. It’s designed to detoxify, stimulate blood circulation, and increase “lymphatic movement”—basically helping reduce bloating and swelling.
The Process: As I lay facedown, my esthetician applied a generous layer of the heated, silky-smooth seaweed clay to my back, arms, and legs before I discreetly flipped over so my front could receive the same. She then cocooned me in warm layers, giving the clay a balmy environment in which to go to work, and then began a scalp massage with just enough pressure. I rinsed everything off in the convenient in-room shower (bring a hair tie) before the final touch: a sumptuous massage with sweet-scented lotion.
The Vibe: Modern decor, like wavy white wall panels and a large chandelier with draped silver chains, brightens up the reception area. Before the treatment began, I spent about 10 minutes relaxing in the Place of Peace, a cozy enclave with stacks of magazines and your choice of drink to sip while wearing a heated neck wrap.
The Result: It’s hard to tell if the body wrap actually lived up to its detoxifying claims, but I certainly felt—and looked—healthier. My face glowed, and I loved my skin’s velvety texture.
Before You Go: Shave! And skip any underwear you wouldn’t want to get dirty—or that you don’t want a stranger to see.
Wish We’d Known: That a facial massage was included. So forego the makeup.
Bonus Tip: Book your next appointment before leaving and get 10 percent off.
Try This If: Recent overindulgences and freezing temps have left you in need of physical and mental TLC.
