Realty Check: What $1.5M Gets You in Williamshire
Curbside, this classic two-story brick home in the gated Williamshire community near 86th Street and Ditch Road easily blends in with its neighbors. But step inside, and its sleek, open concept quickly differentiates the space thanks to an ambitious whole-house renovation in 2008.
Builder Mark S. Adams, who specializes in custom homes and remodels, calls the redesign one of the most challenging projects of his 32-year career, but also the most exciting. “In the Midwest, you don’t often get the chance to do anything like it,” he says of the ultra-contemporary makeover. Upping the ante, Adams had no budget restrictions and an ever-evolving blueprint.
Following the owner’s cues, Adams tore down the interior of the 6,485-square-foot-home to the studs, transforming small, choppy rooms into a wide-open, minimalist space bathed in natural light. Elevated grandeur results from a striking limestone staircase that leads to a balcony overlooking a stunning floor-to-ceiling fireplace. In stark contrast to the showy centerpiece, the Zen sunroom is a simple, glass-enclosed space next to the kitchen, with a stone floor and a soothing water feature that trickles continuously.
But even with these stately features, perhaps the most costly details were the lavish imported fixtures and finishes, such as the dining room’s $24,000 Venini chandelier and silver-leaf ceiling. Combine these ornate embellishments with lush, expansive wooded views, and this modern masterpiece can’t help but make a strong statement.
