Realty Check: What $550K Gets You in Brendonwood

When Charmian Quigley looked for a new house in Indianapolis after a stint in Woodruff Place, she wanted a residence that had a similar feel to her childhood home by the sea in Sydney, Australia—a tall order for Indy, no doubt, so she narrowed her requirements into a reasonable wish list: stunning views and an open floorplan bathed in natural light. At this contemporary Brendonwood ranch set on two acres, Quigley found what she was looking for.
The striking estate, featuring four bedrooms and three bathrooms, was designed by renowned Indy architect Edward Pierre for the 1954 Indianapolis Home Show. Quigley liked its midcentury style, but the home needed serious updates to achieve the contemporary, European aesthetic of her dreams. She began modernizing the home by replacing the black and pink tiles and dark purple wallpaper in the bathrooms with mosaic glass-tile walls.
Quigley, an avid cook, installed top-notch appliances, spacious countertops, and a large, curved island with an elevated glass bar made by local glass artist Greg Thompson. Perhaps the best-designed area of the home, the sprawling office boasts high ceilings and expansive windows that make the gardens appear within reach. This 5,111-square-foot abode may not be seaside, but Quigley deftly transformed it into a see-worthy address.
