Jenni Meyers, owner of Beauty + Grace, considered it a fluke when she first saw a model strutting down the runway wearing a turtleneck during New York Fashion Week this spring. But 22 shows later, she was convinced the look was more than one designer’s whim. “You’re going to see them everywhere,” says Meyers of the midcentury wardrobe staple adopted by style icons from Audrey Hepburn to Jackie Kennedy.
At Fashion Week, all manner of turtleneck sweaters were paired with skirts showing bare legs with ankle or over-the-knee boots. “Skip the calf-length,” Meyers suggests. Hot colors include rich reds, lush greens, and navy blues. As the weather turns cooler, try layering them under summer slips and cocktail dresses.
