First, in defense of Madonna as halftime show performer, the erstwhile Material Girl has just that—oodles of material—to work with. And yet she has been passed off as a “karaoke singer” (et tu, Gene Simmons?) and an over-the-hill, washed-up pop diva. Smacks of ageism, if you ask me. (And you didn’t.)
To spread the love of the big game to those who can’t quite make it to Lucas Oil Stadium, the Super Bowl Host Committee announced 20 Super Celebration sites around central Indiana to offer family-friendly entertainment and up the excitement for the main event.
So you’ve been kicking yourself for not signing up to volunteer at the Super Bowl. Now you have another chance to express yourself: Super Bowl Productions and our local Stage Crew Committee are enlisting volunteers—reportedly 500 of them. McKenze Rogers, marketing and communications coordinator for the Host Committee, verified that the recruitment is legit. The Halftime Show rig has to be set up in eight minutes, which is one of the main things the star is fretting about. The rehearsal schedule is demanding, but if you can’t hack a few dry runs, you probably shouldn’t be working around Madonna.
Amid all the Monday-morning quarterbacking today, the web rehashed the NFL’s confirmation (via this commercial) that Madonna will headline this year’s Super Bowl halftime show—the most-watched musical event of the year—accompanied by Cirque du Soleil and a very good choreographer that no football fan has heard of.
When the Super Bowl Host Committee tweeted a call for restaurant recommendations to give visiting Super Bowl fans a proper taste of their host city, we immediately thought of The Libertine’s neoclassic cocktails, Sensu’s sexy sushi, and (duh) St. Elmo’s shrimp cocktail. Harry & Izzy’s came to mind–especially those new bone-in mini chops on the starter menu, as well as The Eagle’s Nest, which debuts a new look this week. And how could we forget the housemade pickles and peanut butter (and everything that comes out after them) at Black Market? Yum.
It’s not too late to volunteer for the Super Bowl—but Thursday, Dec. 1, it will be. Volunteers are still needed for the NFL Experience (an indoor fan zone) and recycling duties. So long as you can pass the mandatory FBI background check, attend a training session in mid-December, and work three shifts during the event, you can sign up here. The deadline to register is Wednesday, Nov. 30.
Word from the Super Bowl Host Committee’s communications team is that the music acts to perform the pregame and halftime shows on Feb. 5 will be announced in mid-December. And yes, rumor has it that Madonna will finally grace that stage with her “Madgesty’s” presence–and song catalog.
You can’t deny that commercials have their own special place in the hearts of football game watchers everywhere. While a few might fall flat, most are pretty funny/silly/crazy/amazing in their creativity and longevity. There’s even a website dedicated to these short films, and every year media experts give their two cents about the individual commercials and what they think of that year’s crop of commercials as a whole.
With its main branch in Indy located on what will be the (figuratively) hottest corner in the world this February, at Illinois and South Streets, the United States Post Office has a front row seat to all the action at Lucas Oil Stadium. Hearsay has flown around regarding that branch potentially moving operations elsewhere—even as far out as Indianapolis International Airport—but that’s all false, according to Donna Hoffman, Customer Relations Coordinator.
