The Replay: Peyton Manning, Tim Tebow & Jason Whitlock

Every Friday, we post up The Replay, our weekly look at sports. It’s mostly fouls and airballs.

» A Bug’s Lie? When the Colts would play the Patriots in New England, Peyton Manning was so concerned that the visitors’ locker room was bugged that he’d leave to discuss plays and strategy in an adjacent hallway, Tony Dungy told The Dan Patrick Show this week. Rodney Harrison, former Pats DB turned broadcaster, denied the eavesdropping charge, saying the team didn’t need to resort to electronic bugging devices to beat Manning and the Colts.

» Lose-Lose: Just when you thought the NFL wouldn’t have Tim Tebow to kick around anymore, the Colts proved us wrong. In Sunday’s first preseason game, Tebow’s first NFL game since 2013, Indy’s defense sacked Philadelphia’s fourth-string QB three times and hurried 9 of his 15 attempts. But Tebow did run for a touchdown in the Eagles’ 36-10 win against a Colts defense that’s still wearing cleat marks from last season’s AFC Championship loss to the Patriots. So, thanks, Colts defense—Tebow has reportedly moved up the Philly depth chart.

» Uncertain: ESPN’s once-promising affinity website about race and sports remains in limbo two months after founding editor Jason Whitlock, an Indy native, was removed from the masthead, according to Richard Sandomir of The New York Times. Whitlock pledged that The Undefeated would be bold, but, so far, his unceremonious exit—prompted by reports of unbalanced leadership—has been the site’s one and only win.

» Now Read This: Robert Andrew Powell writes that South Florida’s sports franchises aren’t immune to the city’s hustler culture—they’re part of it.
