The Feed: Stella, Milktooth In Fort Wayne, And More

» Hot on the heels of his big news about Ukiyo opening in the Recess space (4907 N. College Ave.), chef Neal Brown stunned Indy with another announcement last week: He’s closing the downtown location of Pizzology (608 Massachusetts Ave., 317-685-2550). The last day of service at the popular pizza joint will be February 19, and Brown plans to reopen on March 21 in the same space as Stella, with a menu heavy on southern European cuisine. Matt Stum, currently chef de cuisine at The Libertine Liquor Bar, will oversee the kitchen. Eat Drink Indy reports that the Carmel location of Pizzology (13190 Hazel Dell Pkwy.) and The Libertine on Mass Ave will continue operations as normal.
» Fort Wayne is gearing up for a Milktooth brunch takeover at The Golden (898 S. Harrison St., Fort Wayne, 260-710-8368) this Sunday, February 19. Milktooth’s Jonathan Brooks is collaborating with The Golden’s Aaron Butts and Sean Richardson on a menu that is currently under wraps, but promises to “melt your face off.” There are no reservations, so plan accordingly.


» The Quirky Feather‘s (890 E. 116th St., 317-688-7272) Tolkien Movie Night series continues this Friday, February 18, with a free showing of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring at 8 p.m. Watch the movie while you snack on Tolkien-inspired treats and cocktails. (Open to all ages, but I.D. required to purchase drinks.)
» Indy’s Bier Brewery (5133 E. 65th St., 317-253-2437) won four medals at the Best of Craft Beer Awards in Bend, Oregon, in January. The 65th Street spot took gold in two categories (Sanitarium for the Belgian-Style Dark Strong Ale or Quadruple; ESB for Extra Special Bitter), one silver (Weizengoot for South German-Style Hefeweizen or Kristal Weizen), and one bronze (International Exchange for American-Style Pilsener or International-Style Pilsener). The competition featured 324 breweries in 82 categories.

» Greenleaf Juicing Company is coming to Indianapolis this spring. Co-owner and Indy native Garret Flynn will open the chain’s first location outside of Oregon at 18 N. Meridian St. (former home of Hardwicke’s Pipe & Tobacco), just off Monument Circle. The 100-percent-organic juice bar and fast-casual restaurant serves fresh juices, acai bowls, soups, and other quick eats on a menu that’s tailor-made for health nuts.

» Make your Fat Tuesday plans now for the Market Gras Gumbo Cook-Off at Indianapolis City Market on Tuesday, February 28. Some of Indy’s best chefs will cook samples of gumbo, with drinks available for purchase at Tomlinson Tap Room. Expect tasty dishes from Rook, Love Handle, Libertine, Meridian Restaurant & Bar, Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place, Twenty Tap, Pogue’s Run Grocer, Circle City Soups, U-Relish Farm, and Three Carrots. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for kids (5 and under are free).
» Ric Payne, co-owner of Wild Beaver Saloon (20 E. Maryland St., 317-423-3080), announced plans to open The Burnside Inn at 314 Massachusetts Ave. Payne told The Indianapolis Star that the restaurant/bar is named after Ambrose Burnside, a Civil War general and native of Liberty, Indiana. He anticipates a summer opening.
» Books & Brews is growing. Owner Jason Wuerful told the IBJ he’s closing in on a deal to open a third location, this time in Muncie. No specifics yet on an address. Wuerful is also in the final stages of franchising his popular business, with high hopes of starting regionally, then expanding beyond that. Books & Brews currently operates in Indianapolis (9402 Uptown Dr., 317-288-5136) and Zionsville (65 Boone Village, 317-344-0365).
