Revery
Greenwood isn’t exactly synonymous with fine dining, but the 2014 opening of Revery put the southside suburb on the culinary map. Diners flock there for the novelty of a gourmet restaurant serving foie gras and pickled beets with whipped goat cheese and wasabi in a homey-rustic space where chatty servers in jeans catch up with their regulars. Former Mesh on Mass executive chefs Mark Henrichs and Danny Salgado tap into that dichotomy on the menu, capturing the comforting charm of the eatery’s downtown location with modern spins on familiar dishes. A shareable bowl of cheese curds fried in chorizo oil rests on a kicky, creamy jalapeño sauce. The veal-and-mushroom meatloaf, a deeply savory, earthy specimen, is propped up by potato puree and fringed with butter-glazed carrots. When you see everyone around the dining room spooning bites out of identical tiny glass canning jars, you know they’ve ordered the eatery’s house-favorite banoffee pie, here reimagined as a parfait of banana slices, crumbled graham crackers, caramel sauce, and whipped cream.
TIP: After dinner, settle into the restaurant’s back-room speakeasy, where bartender Sarah Brown slings craft cocktails, and homemade beef jerky is on the bar-snacks menu.
DON’T MISS: The short rib, an ultra-tender hunk of meat that glides off the fork.
