The Feed: Countdown To Indy Monthly’s Best Restaurants Event, Plus Provider And Public Greens

» Get a taste of the best bites in town at the Indianapolis Monthly Best Restaurants Event tomorrow at the Ivy Tech Culinary School (2820 N. Meridian St.). This celebration of our 2018 Best Restaurants issue is open to the public, with two ticket options: $30 per person for a tasting tour with small plates and drinks, or $150 for a two-person VIP package that includes the tasting tour plus a sit-down dinner with paired drinks. Sample food and chat with the staff at some of Indy’s most popular restaurants, including Cannon Ball Brewing Company, Oakleys Bistro, Three Carrots, R2GO, Rook, Ukiyo, and Vida.

» It’s time for another jewel to be placed in the Patachou crown. The second location of Public Greens (8702 Keystone Crossing, 317-818-0765) opens today in the food court at The Fashion Mall. You can even have your meal on the outdoor patio next to the micro-farm operated by the restaurant. The farmers market–inspired urban cafeteria directs all profits to the Patachou Foundation, serving healthy meals to food-insecure children in Indianapolis.

» Provider (1101 E. 16th St.), the latest from the team behind Coat Check Coffee (401 E. Michigan St., 317-550-5008), is doing a soft opening all this week, 8 a.m.–2 p.m. (through Friday). For now, the space will serve beer, along with favorite coffees and pastries from Coat Check, with plans to add cocktails and an expanded food menu soon.

» Light packers have one last chance to stock up on Just Pop In treats at Indianapolis International Airport, now that the Indy-made snacks are available inside vending machines throughout the airport. S’cute.

» On May 19, Chef JJ’s (42 W. South St., 317-602-3828) will host an Eggfest celebrating all things Big Green Egg. The grilling-and-tasting event will take place at the downtown location of Chef JJ’s 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Tickets are $45. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of Chef JJ’s new ceramic grill how-to book, Go Kamado, before its official national release on May 22.

» GRoE, Inc. is hosting the third annual Open Bite Night this Saturday 1–9 p.m. at Flanner House (2424 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St.). For a suggested $3 donation, there will be food, music, poetry, dancing, and stand-up comedy. The theme of the event is Runway & Reels, and it will highlight local filmmakers, fashion designers, and models. GRoE, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that provides healthy snack bags for free to families in need in the MLK neighborhood.

» Beer class is in session. On May 15, Goose the Market beer buyer Chance Hoover will lead a class called Peculiar Pints, introducing attendees to 10 unique beers and offering behind-the-scenes intel on brewing methods and bottling. A $65 ticket includes the guided tastings, charcuterie and cheeses with accompaniments, and a branded Goose Moleskine777-style notebook. Peculiar Pints is part of a monthly beer education series at Goose (2503 N. Delaware St., 317-924-4944).
