Real Estate Jargon Watch: Mini Master
It’s the secret no one wants to talk about: Many couples prefer to sleep apart. Local real estate agents report growing demand for a second master bedroom (aka a “snoring room”). Joel Woelfle with the Richwine Real Estate Group says his high-end clients began requesting the dual setup in the early 2000s. “It was an amenity for those who could afford it,” says Woelfle.
Now the arrangement is going mainstream. A “mini master” floor plan is an option at Vandalia, a new active-adult community in Plainfield where prices start at an approachable $143,000. For the 55-plus set, a good night’s sleep is high on the wish list when purchasing a new home, according to PulteGroup, Vandalia’s developer. Instead of going to a couch or guest room to escape the dreaded snores (or to stay up late watching TV or reading with a light on), the other half can have his or her own bright and accessible room, adjacent to the master bath. “These rooms can also be easily used for an office, craft room, or workout space,” says Pulte’s Valerie Dolenga. That bodes well for resale. Just one more reason to rest easy.
