The Shopportunist: Art Deco Sale at Glendale Town Center

Collectors, start your engines. Need an oxblood-red sink with serious design pedigree? How about a matching toilet? This set is among a valuable collection of Art Deco antiques from the mansion of Louis Schwitzer, one of the pioneers of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. A few elements from his landmark residence were auctioned off in May, but most remain and will be offered for immediate sale tomorrow at the Indie Arts and Vintage Marketplace at Glendale. Schwitzer was wealthy enough to afford, the best designers and artists of his era, and now many of the pieces in his house are collectible. Chief among them are bathroom fixtures from the Crane Neuvogue Collection designed by Henry Dreyfuss. Stainless-steel stair railings are also on offer. Prices should range from $5 for small hardware to the neighborhood of $1,500 for bathroom fixtures. The piece de resistance is a mural by the French artist Pierre Bourdelle tagged at $20,000, pictured in the photo album below. 9 a.m. at Glendale Town Center, antiquehelpers.com.
