Indy’s own delivered the best overall vocal of the night. It’s belted high notes that get America’s votes, and Kaufman delivered his own with a side of Hoosier humility.

A unique aspect of this art is that all the pieces are originals. The Eskenazi art committee selected the artists, with input from the Indianapolis community.

“What people have experienced at Oranje is a mix of fine art and live music in a nontraditional venue,” says Ryan Hickey. “That’s what we’re going for with this, too—blending different art forms together in a unique space.”

The Australian performer, appearing at the Columbia Club on April 11, isn’t sure how she acquired her musical tastes, “but the muses responsible should probably be arrested.”

“Whether you find it in a little jazz club, or on the street, or on a big stage, or on national television, talent is talent,” Kaufman says. “If you refuse to listen to somebody just because he or she was on a reality show, then you’re making your choice based on bad criteria.”

Julianne Swartz uses photography, plus magnets and other everyday items, in her installations. The lenses in different pieces of work help transfer these mundane objects into “magical moving pictures.”

“There will definitely be some thrashing and head banging and good ol’ spontaneous banter—just a heavy non-stop night of GROUPLOVE. If you are there, you are a part of it.”

Month of May festivities will ramp up to performances by rockers Sammy Hagar and Sublime With Rome, followed by the eardrum-shaking beats of NERVO, Dillon Francis, and Hardwell in the infield during the Indy 500 race itself.

The chiseled, twang-centric sensation Steve Grand will perform on the main stage at the festival on June 14, with his viral hit “All-American Boy” in tow.

The Girl Pride concert will showcase Lambert’s ability to elaborate freely on topics ranging from her love life to her abusive past.
